Seoul packs often add a bonus (+미니쿠션); we don't count it in the saving.
What it is
Laneige’s Neo Cushion The Matte is a 15g cushion foundation with a matte finish. Olive Young sells it alongside the dewier The Glow and the Mui version, and often adds a mini cushion as a gift. It’s registered in Korea as a functional cosmetic for UV protection.
The Korean ingredient list (shade 13C) starts with water, titanium dioxide, methyl trimethicone and homosalate, then several silicones and silica. It also contains niacinamide, zinc oxide, panthenol, betaine, and fragrance with fragrance components such as citronellol, geraniol and limonene.
Who it suits (and who should skip it)
Good pick if
- Your skin is combination or oily and you want a matte finish
- You like light-to-medium coverage you can build on spots
- You want a well-known cushion with refills available
Skip it if
- Your skin is dry or flaky; The Glow will look better
- You react to fragrance
- Your shade isn’t in the Korean range; it’s narrower than some brands
What the ingredients do
Titanium dioxide gives most of the coverage, with iron oxides adding colour. Homosalate, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are UV filters, which is why the product is registered for sun protection. The silicones and silica blur texture and absorb oil, giving the matte look.
Niacinamide and panthenol are small skincare additions. In a foundation they’re nice extras, not a reason to buy.
How to use it
Laneige’s directions: take a suitable amount on the puff and pat it evenly along the skin’s texture. Add small amounts where you need more coverage.
Apply after sunscreen. Tapping gives a smoother finish than swiping.
How it compares
TIRTIR Mask Fit Red Cushion has a satin finish and a wider shade range. espoir Pro Tailor Be Velvet Cover Cushion gives heavier coverage with a velvet matte finish. Our cushion shade guide explains how to test shades in store.
Is it worth buying in Seoul?
Yes. In our latest check, Seoul beat Amazon UK for the same 15g compact. The Amazon US listing we found was a larger 26g pack, and per gram Seoul still came out cheaper. One cushion clears the ₩15,000 tax refund minimum, and refills are sold separately if you like it.
FAQ
Does it contain fragrance?
Yes. The Korean list includes fragrance plus citronellol, geraniol and limonene.
Can it replace sunscreen?
It's registered in Korea as a functional cosmetic with UV protection, but you'd need much more than a normal cushion layer for the labelled SPF. Wear sunscreen underneath.
Is there a glow version?
Yes. Olive Young sells Neo Cushion The Matte, The Glow and Mui. This page is The Matte.
