Korean Cushion Foundations in Seoul: Shade, Refill and Price Guide

Published 23 October 2026 · Seoul Price Check

A cushion foundation can look like a small compact, but the purchase decision has more moving parts than most skincare bottles. You need the right shade, a finish you like, a compatible refill system, and a clear understanding of what is actually inside the box.

The biggest mistake is buying the cheapest-looking compact before checking the shade and whether it includes a refill.

What are you paying for?

A cushion is makeup dispensed from a sponge-like reservoir and applied with a puff. Packaging often makes the product convenient to carry and reapply, but that convenience has a cost. When comparing a Korean cushion with a US or UK listing, check whether each offer is for a complete compact, a refill alone, or a compact-plus-refill set.

A listing with two cartridges is not equivalent to one with a single cartridge. Neither is a refill-only offer equivalent to a new compact unless you already own the compatible case.

The brand’s Korean name is not enough: product lines evolve, and a matte cushion may be different from a glow cushion in the same family.

Decide on finish before choosing a brand

Matte or more controlled-looking finish. Laneige Neo Cushion Matte, CLIO Kill Cover The New Founwear Cushion and TIRTIR Mask Fit All Cover Cushion are useful catalog comparisons. Read the actual finish and shade descriptions for the version on the shelf; product names do not guarantee how a formula will wear on you.

Glow or luminous finish. hince Second Skin Glow Cushion and fwee Cushion Glass offer a contrasting shopping path. hince’s official Korean product page identifies the Second Skin Glow Cushion separately from its refill page, which is precisely why a price comparison should identify the package contents.

Another finish comparison. TIRTIR Mask Fit Red Cushion belongs in the same decision set, but its exact shade and version must be checked before purchase.

These are products to compare, not a claim that every named compact is available in every shade at every Seoul store.

Shade matching beats a small discount

A cushion bought in the wrong shade is not a bargain. Korean and overseas retailers may use different shade naming or carry different shade ranges. Compare the shade code, not just descriptions like “natural” or “light beige.” If a store provides testers, use the permitted tester method hygienically and check the result in more than one lighting condition.

Try to see how a shade looks once it has settled rather than judging only the wet swatch. A flattering compact photograph cannot tell you how the color will look on your skin.

If the shade you need is unavailable, buying nothing is a valid outcome. Do not substitute a visibly wrong shade because the sale ends today.

Cushion SPF is not your whole sun-care plan

Some complexion products display SPF claims. They can contribute to a routine, but it is difficult to know whether the small amount of makeup applied for cosmetic coverage matches the amount used in SPF testing. For predictable protection, follow a dedicated sunscreen’s instructions and the FDA’s guidance on liberal application and reapplication. Do not use a cushion’s SPF label as permission to skip sun protection.

Compare the full contents, not just the headline price

For each listing, write down the full product line, shade code, cartridge weight, number of cartridges and whether a puff and case are included. Check if an overseas offer includes a refill that the Korean offer does not. Only then compare the total payable cost.

This is one category where “per gram” is helpful but incomplete: the right shade and case compatibility matter as much as unit price. A refill may be better value for a repeat buyer and useless to someone without the correct case.

Frequently asked questions

Is a cushion refill universal?

No. Compatibility depends on the brand and specific compact line. Check the product instructions.

Are Korean cushion shades identical to overseas shades?

Not necessarily. Confirm the shade code and product edition; do not rely on a translated shade name alone.

Can I compare a cushion with a liquid foundation by price per gram?

You can calculate it, but the formats and packaging are different. Decide whether you actually want a cushion first.

Should I buy a second shade because it is on sale?

Only if you have a real use for it. A discount does not make an unsuitable shade wearable.
