What it is
Etude’s Fixing Tint is a matte liquid lip tint in a 4g tube. It’s known for staying on through meals better than glossy tints and for its range of muted, everyday shades. Olive Young also sells newer Duo and Pogeun versions, so check the name on the box.
The Korean ingredient list (shade 5, Midnight Mauve) starts with water, isododecane, dimethicone and a silicone crosspolymer, then butylene glycol and a clay thickener. It contains fragrance, and the colourants change by shade.
Who it suits (and who should skip it)
Good pick if
- You want a matte lip that lasts through coffee and lunch
- You like muted, rosy and brick shades for everyday wear
- You want a cheap tint to try a new colour
Skip it if
- Your lips are very dry or flaky
- You react to fragrance in lip products
- You prefer a glossy, juicy finish
What the ingredients do
Isododecane is a light solvent that evaporates after you apply the tint. What’s left is the silicone and pigment layer, which sets matte and resists transfer. The crosspolymers give the blurred, velvety look.
This is a makeup product, so there are no real skincare ingredients to speak of. If your lips get dry, the fix is a balm underneath, not a different tint shade.
How to use it
Etude’s directions: apply along the lip line over the whole lip for a full-colour look, or dab it on the centre of the lips and blend outwards for a gradient lip.
Let it set for a minute before pressing your lips together.
How it compares
Peripera Ink Velvet is another long-wearing velvet tint with a slightly more saturated colour. rom&nd Juicy Lasting Tint goes the other way, with a glossy, juicy finish.
Is it worth buying in Seoul?
Yes. In our latest check Seoul was much cheaper than both Amazon US and Amazon UK for the same 4g tube. On its own it’s under the ₩15,000 tax refund minimum, so buy it in the same receipt as other products to get the refund.
FAQ
Does it contain fragrance?
Yes. Fragrance is listed on the Korean ingredient list.
Is it drying?
It's a matte formula, so dry lips may feel it. Apply lip balm first and blot before the tint.
Is there a newer version?
Olive Young also sells a Duo Fixing Tint and a Pogeun (soft) Fixing Tint. This page is the original 4g Fixing Tint.
